Some Frequently Asked Questions (and answers)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . shots . . . . . .
The only one that is required is a yellow fever shot. You should also take malaria prevention tablets. Most people also get shots to prevent tetanus, hepititis, etc. The Centers For Disease Control at 1-800-311-3435 or www.cdc.gov gives free advisories on immunizations. They will also give you information on the country you're traveling to which includes recent epidemics, health concerns and weather considerations.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . best time to visit Ghana . . . . . . . . .
Definately August. It is relatively cool and less humid than other months. Ghana is near the equator and can be hot and humid, but in August it might even be necessary to wear a light sweater in the evening.

. . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . how to get Visas . . . . . . . . .
Send a self-addressed and stamped envelope to:

Embassy of Ghana
3512 International Drive NW
Washington, DC 20008

and they will send a visa application with all the requirements listed.

. . . . . . . . . . . what to wear . . . . . . . . .
Definitely cotton. It can be washed and will dry overnight. You will find that clothing covering your arms and legs (long skirts for women) will make you feel cooler and in the evening will keep the mosquitos off. T-shirts and slacks or skirts and comfortable shoes for walking are all you need. One more item that you might bring is a bathing suit. Ghana has beautiful beaches and some of the hotels have pools. I suggest not wearing short, shorts. The Africans don't, and neither should you.

Ghanaians love to dress up. You're not expected to compete, but you'll want to look tidy. Try buying some cloth at an outdoor market and asking anyone to point you towards a seamstress. You can get a shirt or dress made quickly and inexpensively. If you bring a picture of something you want sewn, a seamstress can copy it.

. . . . . what language do they speak in Ghana ? . . . . . .
They speak English. Ghana was a British colony until it won its independence in 1957. Almost everyone you come in contact with will speak English, a few of the Ghanaian languages and possibly French and German. If you travel to rural areas, you might come in contact with people (especially older people) who do not speak English.

. . . . . . . . . . . is Ghana safe? . . . . . . . . .
Yes. Unfortunately non-Africans don't usually know how large a continent Africa is. Because there is unrest in one area that does not mean that all of Africa is at war or having a famine. Ghana is one of the most stable countries in Africa. It has a democratic government and is actively seeking tourists, so they do everything they can to make your visit a good one. The people are friendly and helpful.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . where is Ghana ? . . . . . . . . .
Ghana is in West Africa. It has common boarders with Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Togo. The southern part of Ghana is on the Atlantic Ocean.
